Privacy Policy

The short version. Recipiny is local-first. Your recipes, notes, grocery items, and cover photos live only on your phone — never on our servers. We collect the minimum required to let you sign in and to extract recipes from links you choose to share with us. We don't sell, rent or share your data with advertisers.

1. Who we are

"Recipiny", "we", "us" and "our" refer to the developer of the Recipiny mobile application. If you need to reach us, email mycreativelab26@gmail.com.

2. What we collect

We collect only what we need to operate the app:

Email address — used as your account identifier when you sign in. Stored with our authentication provider (Amazon Cognito).
Password — never stored by us in plaintext. Hashed and managed entirely by Amazon Cognito.
The URL you paste — sent transiently to our recipe-extraction service so we can fetch the recipe text. Not stored after the response is returned.

3. What stays on your device

The following data lives only in your phone's local storage and is never transmitted to us:

Saved recipes (title, ingredients, steps, cook time, calories, source URL)
Personal notes you add to recipes
Custom cover images you upload
Grocery list items
Meal plan entries
Cook history, checked ingredients and other per-recipe state

When you delete a recipe in the app, it is removed from your device. We never had a copy.

4. Third-party services we use

When you tap "Pin" with a recipe link, the URL is sent to our backend, which calls these third-party services on your behalf to extract the recipe:

Amazon Web Services (Cognito) — handles account creation, sign-in and password reset.
Cloudflare Workers — hosts the recipe-extraction backend. Cloudflare may briefly process the request as it transits their network.
OpenAI — receives the scraped text of a post (caption, description or transcript) and returns a structured recipe. OpenAI's privacy practices apply to that processing.
Apify — used to read public Instagram posts when you import an Instagram link.
Deepgram — used to transcribe the audio of a video when no caption is available. The audio file is fetched from the source platform, sent to Deepgram for transcription, and discarded after the transcript is returned.
YouTube Data API — used to read public YouTube titles, descriptions and thumbnails.

None of these services receive your account email or your saved recipes — only the specific post you choose to import.

5. What we do not do

We do not sell or rent your data to anyone.
We do not run ads inside Recipiny.
We do not track your browsing across other apps or websites.
We do not collect analytics on your individual usage of recipes (which ones you cooked, when, etc.).

6. Backups

The "Back up my recipes" feature exports your local database to a JSON file and hands it to your device's share sheet — so you decide where to save it (iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Files, email to yourself, etc.). The backup file does not pass through our servers. We never see it.

7. Your rights and choices

Access: all your recipe data is visible inside the app at any time.
Export: use "Back up my recipes" in Profile to take your data anywhere.
Deletion of account: email mycreativelab26@gmail.com from your registered address and we'll delete your account and any associated authentication record within 30 days.
Deletion of recipes: delete recipes individually from the recipe screen, or uninstall the app to remove all local data at once.

8. Children

Recipiny is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we will remove the account.

9. Changes

If we update this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. Significant changes will be announced in-app at next launch.
